The selendang is a shoulder cloth from Palembang, Indonesia. The textile traditions of the region have historically been influenced by many outside cultures through maritime trade such as India, East Asia, the Arab world and Europe. The cloth is crafted using a resist-dye technique called plangi, producing an elaborately designed textile that was reserved for use on important ceremonial occasions.
