There are several tribal groups known for their embroidered ralli quilts, particularly the Saamis and the Jogis. These rallis are stitched together with unique and unusual embroidery stitches as well as the straight stitch. A traditional Jogi quilt is quilted from the outside in a series of increasingly smaller rectangles working to the center. The background is often black and the thread, a thick colored cotton, is used to create multiple designs with a variety of embroidery stitches.
