Chikanobu

Following the Genpei War in the 12th century, Minamoto no Yoshitsune (1159-1189), one of the most famous samurai warriors in Japanese history, had a falling out with his half brother and new shogun, Yoritomo. This print illustrates Yoshitsune with his beloved mistress Lady Shizuka and loyal retainer Benkei in the mountains of Yoshino where they face Yoritomo's assassins.
