The Mbap Mteng, or elephant mask is worn and danced by members of the Kuosi secret society among the Bamileke people of Cameroon, West Africa. Adorned with rare, imported trade beads on highly valued indigo dyed cloth, the entirely of the mask demonstrates the power, vigor and prestige of the Bamileke chiefdom. The mask is worn during celebrations, funerals and special occasions, including the Tso, one of the most spectacular dances in West Africa.
